Unboxing Live 026: HP Pavilion HDX Dragon Entertainment Notebook PC

In this episode, we open up the Pavilion HDX Dragon PC. This thing is a monster - a 20.1-inch notebook that specializes in home entertainment, sporting dual-lamp displays and weighing in at 15.5 pounds. Other stats of note on the HDX Dragon are the 64-bit Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB included memory (it supports up to 4GB), HP Imprint casing (looks very sleek), and fingerprint reader for security.

Since it’s a computer geared towards entertainment, the video card should also be mentioned. The HDX Dragon ships with a 512MB ATi Mobility Radeon HD2600 XT. That means that you get DirectX 10 support out of the box. Continuing on the whole entertainment meme, it also has a built-in -ROM drive, allowing you to play back your HD DVD movies at .

Finally we have the connections, which are too many for us to go through - so we will let HP tell the story here:

The HDX comes with 4 USB 2.0 ports, an Express Card/54 slot (which also supports Express Card/34), an HDMI port, an S-Video, a VGA, an RJ-11, an RK-45, an IEEE 1394 FireWire, and a Consumer IR. A 5-in-1 digital media Card reader supports Secure Digital, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMediaCard, and xD-Picture Cards. You get an eSATA port for high-speed data transfer to external storage devices up to six times faster than existing solutions, which is perfect for high-def video content recording. There’s an integrated 802.11a/g/b/pre-N plus Bluetooth for highest-speed wireless connections. And the adjustable webcam with integrated microphones lets you capture still photos and short videos and for live video chat.

So yeah - they packed a lot into this machine. Now hit the video to actually see how it all came together.

Let us know what you think, or what you want us to unbox next!

Do you guys get to keep the stuff that is sent to you?

Why do you ask?

It all depends. We will either give it away, return it, or buy it.

I’m just curious.  I think it’s really cool is all.  I’m honored that you responded.  ;p

Ok, That is One HUGE Notebook/laptop/computer. I would definitely love to get my hands on it and unbox it… of course, the only way I could is if I won it. I particularly like the manual that comes with it. The spiral binding is definitely a user-friendly feature, and the layout sure beats most, if not all, computer manuals!

Great review of the unboxing of the HP HDX better know as the dragon. This is not the dragon that will be given away I think because I see an ATI logo on the dragon. The contest dragon comes with a 8800M GTS 512MB. This is the perfect notebook for me! :D

very nice notebook pc to replace the desktop. to bad on its size to not make it more portable. but other than that very nice design. The thing that i don’t get thought is that Andru says HD instead of Blu-Ray. Considering as of right now HD lost the competition with Blu-Ray a couple of months ago, and not really anyone uses HD any more in products unless you got it when the rivalry was going on and still have it but when you go to the hp site and look at the specs it doesn’t say anything about an Option of getting an HD player or having a HD player it only lists the blu-ray option. wouldn’t mind having this computer for myself or atleast winning it.

Here is the site for the specs:

HP did a great job with this computer, styling to components, it’s great. The graphics on the computer and even on the box are very appealing. When you choose a computer you also look at the style so they definitely won the consumer with that. The components inside the Entertainment PC are for amazing for such a portable PC. What really wins me over on Dragon is the HDTV Tuner that is in it. I would love to record some shows before I go on a flight or a road trip. The HD Blu-Ray disc player is also a huge plus for entertainment on the go. I would love to take this thing over to my friends house and show them what I’m playing Flight Sim X on. All in all it is an amazing computer!!

I totally agree with Mikeltje about being the main money maker. I mean, look at that thing!! :OOO
The ability to rotate the screen like that will be very useful for showing presentations or a project idea around the table. Just rotate the screen, not the whole computer and the power cord lol.
The next thing is the webcam. I have never used a webcam before, so maybe I can finally share screens with my friends ^_^

Only downside is being 64-bit. >_<
By the way, any chance of having subtitled podcasts? I’m very rarely allowed to have the speakers on.

I just love this laptop, 20.1 inches screen is amazing and a blu-ray drive is a plus, Good Luck to all that enters

I love the looks of this system. I rrally don’t need all that software, but the videos. Dang, I’m in love with Johnny Depp as the cap’n…

Great video. All of your videos are of very high quality.

This one nice laptop, taking my media where ever I go will be amazing with 20.1 inch screen and with the blu-ray will make the experience even more enjoyable, Good Luck to all who’s entering
