If you’re looking for a durable 2-in-1 PC that’ll allow you to get some serious work done, you should take a close look at the HP Elite x2. I open it up and give you a look at the Elite X2 in this episode.
The HP Elite x2 is a thin, stylish 2-in-1 PC that runs Windows 10 Pro, made for the mobile workforce and optimized for those who don’t want to choose between durability, connectivity, or great battery life when on the go. I’ll be bringing you a deeper dive look at the Elite x2 in a future video, but for now, I wanted to give you an up-close look at the device and all the extra goodness that HP packs into the box when you purchase one.
Let’s get the name out of the way first - I’ll be referring to this at the HP Elite x2, but technically, it’s the HP Elite x2 1012 G1 tablet - but that’s a ridiculous thing to say over and over, so Elite x2 it is.
So, taking this out of the box, right up front you you see the Elite x2 in a pretty nondescript box. So lemme get everything out of here and then walk through each piece.
First up, the HP Elite x2 itself. I mentioned durability, and HP went the extra mile here, covering the display in Gorilla Glass 4. It’s the same strengthened glass you’ll find on most smartphones, which makes it resistance to scratches and breakage.
Of course, in order to use it, you need to be able to prop up the Elite x2, and the built-in kickstand is great, because it adjusts up to 150 degrees to any viewing angle that you’d like, rather than just offering two or three positions like some other machines you’ll find out there.
Just touring around the hardware, on back we have the 5 megapixel camera with LED flash which also records in 1080p, as well as a fingerprint reader for an added layer of security and convenience. On one side we see the built-in USB-C port with Thunderbolt capabilities, which makes very happy to see. You also get a standard USB 3.0 port, headphone jack, and SD card slot as well. On the other side you’ve got your power, volume rocker, mini display port, and even a microSIM slot for wireless cellular connectivity. On front you have the 12-inch 1920x1280 display, covered by that Gorilla Glass that I mentioned earlier. There’s a second camera there, 2 MP with 1080p video. Great for video calls, but you probably don’t wanna take too many pictures with it. The speaker system is a dual stereo design, with audio by Bang & Olufsen, and the bottom, you see a unique port - that’s for docking stations and clicking into the keyboard.
Speaking of which, here you see the detachable keyboard. This is what makes this a 2-in-1 PC, it’s the fact that it’s a tablet that runs full windows, and can essentially transform into a laptop simply by attaching the keyboard. Going close-up to the keys, you see they do have decent travel distance as well, and on the outside, it’s a nice, soft-touch material. Another included accessory is the Wacom pen - you get a full-size wacom pen with digitizer built into the Elite x2. That’s a nice bonus for creatives out there, and the pen itself supports quick launch actions as well.
As I mentioned, this was just our first look at the HP Elite x2, I’ll be bringing you a more in-depth video shortly. For now, let me know what you think of this one. Would you use a 2-in-1 for work? Leave a comment below letting me know, and I’ll meet you there.
