Alongside the news that the Zune 3.0 software has launched, Microsoft has also released a couple of new Zunes. Here, we are focusing specifically on the new Zune 120. Changes from last year’s Zune 80 are minimal, with everything being completely cosmetic in nature. As you will see, the Zune 120 features a glossy black front, as opposed to last year’s matte black, and the back of the Zune 120 is black, while the Zune 80 had a metallic aluminum finish. If you wanna get technical, then I should also point out that the Wi-Fi antenna is also now black, and the writing and etching on the back of the Zune 120 is white. We’ve been following the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones ever since we first got some hands-on (and ears-on) time with them back at CES. The Gear Live group that got to try them out included a few serious audiophiles, and we were thoroughly impressed by the sound that they were putting out, and this is when they were still in the development phase.
We just got a pair of the final production model, and early indications are that they are full of a bit more awesome than they were back then. We will hit you with a proper review soon, but for now, we wanted to get you a nice Beats unboxing gallery, chock full of unboxing shots. We’ve got over 30 images for you to chew on while you wait for these bad boys to launch on July 25th. If you want them, you will find them exclusively in Apple Stores and Best Buy, as well as over at BeatsByDre.com. They will run you $349.95, $50 less than they were announced for back at CES.

Flip Mino unboxing gallery

A few weeks ago, the Flip Mino was unleashed, becoming the first Flip Video camcorder that included a rechargeable internal battery. All Flips before that run on standard AA batteries. The Flip Mino is also a bit smaller than the original Flip Video camera, and the Flip Ultra. At a price of $179, it’s fairly decent. We got our hands on one of the new HP Mini-Note ultraportable netbooks, and thought you guys would enjoy seeing a gallery that’s chock full of unboxing shots. The Mini-Note is HP’s entry into the netbook (very tiny, ultraportable computers that are geared towards Internet tasks) realm, and we think they nailed it in quite a few key areas. The HP Mini-Note 2133 impresses with its over-all well thought-out design and strong focus on business performance. While the unwieldy mouse button placement will likely throw most users for a loop, it is possible to adapt after a few hours of usage. If you are in the market for an ultra-light laptop with a roomy keyboard and high resolution screen, but don’t feel like waiting around to see if an Atom version is on the way, the 2133 seems like an ideal choice.

HP TouchSmart PC gets refreshed, unboxed

HP just announced their newly updated TouchSmart PC. We were able to get our hands on one a little early, and figured we’d do our obligatory unboxing gallery. When we first saw the original back at CES 2007, we thought it was a huge, clunky computer. This new design actually seems to almost one-up Apple in a way. After all, the computer has a similar profile to an iMac, and is touch sensitive - you know, hence the whole TouchSmart name.
The model we got also features a wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which operate over RF technology rather than Bluetooth, which means sync issues should be non-existent. Oh, don’t get us wrong, this computer does include Bluetooth, as well as a host of other technologies. It’s packed to the brim with the latest technology too. While we’re on the subject, might as well list it all out, right?
Well, we’ve got an Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, SuperMulti DVD burner, 802.11b/g/n support, NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS HD graphics card, and ships with Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition.

AirPort Express 802.11n unboxing gallery

A few days ago, Apple released the new AirPort Express with 802.11n Wi-Fi built-in. The release signified the completion of Apple’s wireless router line moving to the 802.11n Draft 2.0 standard, and they kept the price at an affordable $99 USD. We went down to the local Apple Store to pick one of these up to use alongside our AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule, which means we have a beefy N network rocking here at Gear Live HQ. Using the three in tandem is fantastic, especially for wireless Time Machine support.
We just put up an AirPort Express 802.11n unboxing gallery. We’ve got a good 12 images up there for your perusal giving you a look at how compact the AirPort Express wireless router is, as long as the ports and the power connector, among other things. Go give it a look.

Over the past day, we’ve been putting Apple’s Time Capsule through its paces, and so far, we like what we see. The Amazon Kindle has been the talk of the gadget town for the past week or so. If by chance you missed it, the Kindle is Amazon’s foray into the ebook reader space. The device sports free EV-DO, which Amazon calls it’s “WhisperNet” service, which allows you to purchase and download an e-book from just about anywhere - no computer required. We were able to get our hands on one recently, and as is our custom, we snapped up a bunch of Kindle unboxing photos. We liked the art on the box, and what was inside wasn’t overburdening at all - just the Kindle itself, along with a charge cable and USB cable. Oh, and instructions, but those don’t count since no one looks at them anyway - plus, when you start up the Kindle, it boots right into the instructional “Welcome to the Kindle” e-book. Fancy.
