Nintendo's next big home console, the Wii U, is set to launch here in the US in a week-and-a-half on November 18. That's typically when we'd expect to see unboxing videos start appearing online, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata took advantage of his position, getting the jump on everyone with a nice head start. We've got the video below, after the break, of Iwata unboxing the Wii U Deluxe Edition console, showing off the system hardware, GamePad, and all the packed-in accessories. In this episode we open up the Nest Learning Thermostat. If you are unfamiliar, check out our video demo of Nest. Nest aims to manage the heating and cooling in your house by learning your usage patterns alongside built-in motion sensors that are used to tell when you are and aren't home. You can control Nest directly from the unit, as well as from anywhere that you have an Internet connection through the browser. It also has smartphone apps that allow you to control it directly from your mobile device. The more you interact with Nest, the more it learns about your preferences, and it will continually tune itself to your preferences and schedule. Nest is currently backordered by about two months from the company, but you can pick up Nest on Amazon.

We got our hands on the Kinect sensor for Xbox 360 a day before launch, and we've been putting the motion gaming peripheral through its paces for the past five days now in preparation for our Kinect review. It'll be up later today, but in the meantime, we figured we'd share some unboxing shots of the Kinect unit. It's deceptively larger than it appears to be in product shots--it's a substantial piece of technology. It matches up perfectly with the redesigned Xbox 360 S model that was introduced back at E3 as well. Get a look at all the shots in our Kinect unboxing gallery.

Unboxing Live 059: Xbox 360 S

Microsoft announced the new Xbox 360 S last week at E3, and we were able to get our hands on one soon after to give you a look at all the goodness. As a refresher, the newly redesigned Xbox 360 is 35% thinner than the original, and features a glossy black exterior. It ships with a 250GB hard drive that’s been redesigned to fit into the new shape of the console, and it drops the memory card slots. Even better, it comes with built-in 802.11g/n Wi-Fi, so there is no need for any sort of external dongle accessory anymore. Hit the video for all the rest, but just know that you can pick up the new Xbox 360 now for $299.
