We were able to get our hands on the Motorola DROID a few days early, and we’ve got to say, this thing is a beauty. Android 2.0 is responsive and crisp, especially on the fantastic DROID display. Unboxing Live 049: 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro

At the WWDC 2009 keynote, Apple revealed the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, bringing the aluminum MacBook into the Pro family, and also bringing back FireWire. We’ve snapped a good 16 images showing you the Lumix LX3, along with everything else that’s included in the box. Our only regret? That we couldn’t use the Lumix LX3 to shoot the unboxing of itself. Nintendo DSi unboxing gallery

We know you guys have been waiting for it, so here we are with our Nintendo DSi unboxing gallery. In case you haven’t heard, the Nintendo DSi is the company’s follow-up to the standard Nintendo DS. It does away with the GameBoy cartridge slot, so it is thinner, and it also features two camera on the device, one facing the player and one facing away from the player, on the outside of the unit. The cameras open up new gaming possibilities, as does the much expanded storage. The DSi features the DSi Shop, which connects to the Internet in a similar fashion to the Wii Shop, and allows you to download games in exchange for Points. Pantech Matrix Pro unboxing gallery

We were able to spend some quality time with the latest dual slider Windows Mobile smartphone from AT&T, that being the Pantech Matrix Pro. If you are unfamiliar with dual slider phones, what this means is that if you slide the phone vertically, you get a number pad—but if you turn it horizontally and slide up, you get a QWERTY keyboard. Very slick. The Pantech Matrix Pro runs Windows Mobile 6.1, and is Video Share capable, which means you can beam video to and from the phone to other handsets, a feature that we think is the hotness, along with turn-by-turn navigation via aGPS. We will be doing more with the Matrix Pro, but for now, we’ve put together a nice Pantech Matrix Pro unboxing gallery, featuring 31 images of the new smartphone.

Amazon Kindle 2 unboxing gallery

It’s a happy day here at Gear Live HQ, what with the arrival of both the Amazon Kindle 2 and Resident Evil 5, thanks to UPS. We figured we’d tear right in to the Kindle 2 upon arrival so that we could bring you another unboxing gallery full of e-book reader goodness, and we think we succeeded. We’ve got 30 images of the Kindle 2 available for you to check out in our Kindle 2 unboxing gallery, showing off all aspects of the device, the packaging, and the included USB cable and charging add-on (which, we think, is pretty neat.) T-Mobile G1 unboxing gallery

We’re in the midst of getting our T-Mobile G1 reviewed, but in the meantime, we wanted to show off the looks and unboxing experience of the phone. Obviously, the G1 is the first publicly available phone that is based on the Google Android platform, and if you are on T-Mobile, we think it’s the phone to have. This is obviously T-Mobile’s answer to the iPhone, and it’s good to see that other companies are trying to innovate and catch up, with the aim of putting out great phones. With Android, the G1 software is even more open than that of the iPhone OS. We’ll get into all that in our review of the phone, but for now enjoy the shots in our T-Mobile G1 unboxing gallery.

Disney Pixar’s Ultimate Control Wall-E unboxing gallery

We just received one of the new Disney Pixar Ultimate Control Wall-E remote controlled robots, and we just had to share. If you’ve been looking for a Wall-E robot toy that mimics the actions of Wall-E from the movie, this is it. It features movie-like movement, the original character voice, and familiar sound effects. As soon as you turn him on, Wall-E comes to life, introduces himself, and then follows your commands. You can have him respond specifically to the remote control, which controls movement of his head, arms, hands, wrists, and body, as well as expressions and phrases. Or, you can have him go off and do his own thing in exploration mode. He will look around, stop and make noises, etc. Lastly, you can put him in follow mode, where he will follow in the general direction of any noises that his internal mic picks up. That can be your voice, clapping, or any other audible sound. All movie-like robotic movement and integrated character animation is controlled by a next-generation, advanced micro processor to generate variable speeds integrated with smart-check position action and movement.
Wall-E has sleep and automatic shut-off modes, so no worries on leaving him on and draining the battery. The robot stands a little over 16” tall, and includes a 7.2V rechargeable battery, along with charger. The included remote requires 3 AA batteries. We can’t say enough about the Ultimate Control Wall-E robot, look for him to appear in our 2008 Holiday Gift Guide.
